Woodland Butterflies & Flowers

Applique on patchwork piecing - the best of both worlds - indulging in two passions in the same wall quilt. These two are called "Woodland Butterflies" and "Woodland Flowers" and they measure approx 16" x 19".

In both quilts I've tried to divide my background fabrics into light and dark so that the centre is a bit like a patch of sunlight in the woods.

The background block for the "Butterflies" is

and for the "Flowers"

In both wall quilts the blocks are turned as I sewed them together across the rows.

The applique is done by machine as in my previous blog Freezer Paper Applique - Jugs and this is the link to the printer-friendly instructions

I have lots of butterflies in my garden this summer and the Big Butterfly Count 2015 has just started if you're interested in spotting butterflies for 15 mins.
After all we shouldn't sew all the time .......should we??!! - Anita

Exhibition Preview at Flowerpatch

Flowerpatch Quilters members are sewing frantically to finish off their entries for this year's exhibition - only 3 weeks away!! Last Thursday we had a bit of a preview of a few of the quilts, etc. and below is just a tantalizing glimpse of what is in store.

A veritable menagerie

and flowers, of course

and such a diversity of pattern and colour this year!

I can see it's going to be another great exhibition - our 32nd, and every visitor will be made most welcome so please do join us.

The exhibition runs from 10am to 4pm on Tuesday 4th August to Saturday 8th August, and is held in Central Methodist Church Hall, Launceston, Cornwall, PL15 8BA. We have fabric and quilting books and craft sales; and also CAKE. Entrance is £2.

At the exhibition we will be raffling a double bed quilt in aid of The Samaritans in Cornwall, but tickets will be available at a couple of venues before then. The first is Cowslip Workshops at the Summer Fair, 25th and 26th July and the second is at Launceston Agricultural Show on 30th July, so maybe see you there, too.

Just a couple of practical matters:
Entries have to be delivered to Liz on Saturday 1st August between 10am and 1pm.
Would  anyone who can please bring greenery and flowers to the Mehodist Church on Monday morning, for the flower arranging ladies.

Here's hoping for another enjoyable and successful exhibition week - Anita x
